Sending Money to Pakistan: Fees, Exchange Rates and Safety

A simple method for comparing remittance services and protecting both sender and recipient.

Compare the total delivery

The visible transfer fee is only part of the cost. Compare the amount charged, the exchange rate used and the exact rupee amount the recipient is expected to receive. A service advertising “zero fee” may still earn money through a wider exchange-rate margin.

Match the delivery method

Bank deposit, mobile wallet and cash pickup serve different needs. Confirm the recipient’s name, account or wallet details and identification requirements. Speed can vary by funding method, compliance review and banking hours, so an estimated delivery time is not a guarantee.

Use regulated channels

Choose a provider authorized in the country where you send money and use formal channels into Pakistan. Start with a small test transfer when using a new service. Keep receipts and reference numbers, and never send money after an unexpected caller asks for passwords or verification codes.

Resolve problems methodically

Contact the provider with the transaction reference and a clear description of the issue. If a Pakistan-based bank is involved, use its complaint process and keep a written record. The State Bank’s Sunwai portal provides a route for banking complaints and tracks escalation options.
